Veneers
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. They may also be known as porcelain laminates; these thin shells of porcelain fit exactly over the front surfaces of teeth. Veneers have the unique ability to mask unattractive stains, all while appearing as regular teeth.
Advantages of porcelain veneers
Veneers solve a multitude of dental problems, such as: chips, crooked teeth, discolorations, gaps and stains. They fix issues similar to that of ‘bonding’, although with the added advantage of strength and support to the teeth. Porcelain veneers can also correct misaligned, short, worn and uneven teeth.
Procedure for porcelain veneers
Porcelain veneers require two visits to the dentist, as some laboratory work is involved to get your veneers ready.
During first visit, dentist provides you all the information regarding the procedure and whether you are a suitable candidate. If you are then, a full examination of your gums and teeth performed. An impression of your teeth is taken, so that the porcelain shells may be specifically crafted to fit the shape of your teeth.
During the next visit, your crafted veneers would be ready for fitting. Porcelain veneers are carefully cemented to your teeth to effectively hide any imperfections. They are then color matched to the natural colors of your teeth for a uniform and appealing smile.
